PGA Announces ICESDF Report as UNGA 69 Document[viewed]

The President of the UN General Assembly, John Ashe, has circulated to Member States the Report of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Financing (ICESDF). The report was adopted on 8 August 2014, during the Committee's fifth and last session. Ashe notes that the report will be issued as a document of UNGA 69, "for consideration and appropriate action in the context of the Post-2015 Development Agenda."

PGA Reports on Technology Dialogues, Transmits Elements for Resolution[viewed]

The President of the UN General Assembly, John Ashe, issued a Summary Report and recommendations from the four, one-day "structured dialogues" on possible arrangements for a facilitation mechanism to promote the development, transfer and dissemination of clean and environmentally sound technologies. He also noted the presentation of draft elements for a procedural resolution on the issue, and indicated that the current co-facilitators will lead intergovernmental consultations in this regard.

Asia-Pacific Ministers Agree on 6 Post-2015 Priorities for Education[viewed]

Education ministers and government officials from 37 Asia-Pacific countries have endorsed a draft statement on Education Beyond 2015, at the Asia-Pacific Regional Education Conference, held on 6-8 August 2014, in Bangkok, Thailand. The Bangkok Statement outlines six priority action areas for the region: lifelong learning for all; equity and equality; skills and competencies for life and work; quality and teachers; information and communication technologies (ICTs) for education; and governance and financing.

Asia-Pacific Consultation on Post-2015 Accountability Calls for Stronger Use of Data and Statistics[viewed]

The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) has issued the Chair's summary of a regional consultation on ensuring accountability for implementation of the post-2015 development agenda. The consultation took place during ESCAP's 70th session in Bangkok, Thailand, on 5-6 August 2014. The meeting was the second in a series of regional consultations on accountability organized by the UN regional commissions.

Consultations on Post-2015 Summit to Resume in September[viewed]

UN Member States decided to postpone concluding the informal consultations on organizational modalities of the UN Summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda. The consultations are expected to resume in early September. Consultations started on 27 June 2014 at UN Headquarters, in New York, US, and continued throughout July, with delegations discussing a draft resolution and annexes that elaborate on key elements, which were circulated by the co-facilitators, Robert Guba Aisi of Papua New Guinea, and Ib Petersen of Denmark.

Secretary-General Reports on International Financial System and Development[viewed]

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has issued a report on the 'International financial system and development.' Submitted in response to UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolution 68/201, the report reviews recent trends in international official and private capital flows to developing countries, as well as efforts to strengthen the international financial system "towards the post-2015 development agenda."

UN Committee Discusses Geospatial Information for Sustainable Development[viewed]

Ministers and senior leaders discussed how to ensure more consistent locational positioning and mapping across the globe at the fourth session of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (GGIM). The Committee is mandated to assist in making accurate, authoritative and reliable geospatial information available to support global, regional and national development, including for the post-2015 development agenda, as well as to enhance collaboration among Member States.

UNDP Administrator Outlines Long-Term Development View[viewed]

UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Helen Clark stressed the need to “get ahead of the curve of future crises and disasters to avert huge and costly development setbacks and lives lost,” in the Aspen Institute's Third Annual Madeleine K. Albright Global Development Lecture. In 'Making Sense of the World We Live In: The Development Contribution,' Clark highlighted: the work involved in achieving transformational change; the importance of investments in building resilience; challenges in nation building; and progress and next steps on the post-2015 development agenda.

Expert Workshop Charts Action Strategy for Data Revolution[viewed]

Without investment in the production and use of high quality data, there is no guarantee that a data revolution will improve development outcomes, according to participants at an expert workshop on ‘The data revolution: from talk to action.' The workshop's outcome document discusses the data revolution, describes principles for sustained improvement to maximize the value of development data, identifies challenges and constraints, and outlines an agenda for action to work towards over the next two years.
