Post-2015 Inequalities Consultation Newsletter Highlights High-Level Meeting Outcomes, Updated Synthesis Report

15 March 2013: The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and UN Women have released the March Online Newsletter on the Post-2015 Global Thematic Consultation on Inequalities, which features pieces on the Public Dialogue and High-Level Leadership Meeting and updates to the Synthesis Report on the Global Thematic Consultation on Addressing Inequalities to more strongly reflect the voices of youth, and includes new sections on young people, girls and young women.

The newsletter notes key recommendations from the High-Level Leadership Meeting held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 18-19 February, 2013, include addressing inequalities as a prerequisite for effectively eradicating extreme poverty, ensuring sustainable socio-economic development, and integrating human rights principles in a future development framework to address the structural nature of inequalities. The newsletter also mentions that an online consultation on disability and development is being hosted on the Inequalities e-space by UNICEF and the Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) to inform the outcome document of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) High-level Meeting on Disability and Development that will be held in New York, on 23 September 2013.

The Inequalities consultation was informed by 175 written submissions received as a result of a call for papers, and benefited from a series of 10 e-discussions on key themes which  garnered 1,375 responses largely from civil society.

Inequalities is one of 11 themes being addressed on a global level by the UN Development Group's (UNDG) consultations on the post-2015 development agenda. UNICEF and UN Women co-lead and facilitate the global thematic consultation on inequalities, with support from the Governments of Denmark and Ghana.
